Chapter 242 What It All Means 6

(Apologies, health emergency ;-; will return tomorrow(

It was an egg.

That was wrong.

It once was an egg.

This was the correct statement.

Or maybe that was actually wrong too.

Suffice to say, Cerisedel, or Cerise as she had preferred to have herself identified was formerly someone who lived in an egg for an unknown period of time and then hatched out of it.

She was born surrounded not by her people, but close enough to her in their own way.

They had stolen from merchants, travelers and the like because they knew that she was special, unique and different unlike any other.

And that was how she grew, surrounded by love and adoration—although the meaning was not always gotten across properly.

There was a gap in intellect, as she surpassed them, but that was not to say that they were dumb.

Cerise had powers unlike them, it was in the way that she touched the walls and sparked light against it, creating a canopy of the night skies that she had seen and loved to the freeing blue sky.

Recently, she learned how to wield her powers and in fact, grew more in such a way that she understood her role could have been different. Far more different.

There was a certain magic in the crisp air, it flowed and coalesced and soon enough she discovered that besides the egg that she had hatched in—there was something more.

A treasury.

Her own private little nook, perhaps prepared by her predecessors before they left.

But what had been important were the books, the books were incredible and her hungry and greedy mind devoured it all.

There was also a shimmering ball, crystalline and Cerise managed to operate it and it was how she discovered a certain intruder in the mountains.

Cerise could not protect everyone—she could have tried to, but they were stubborn and preferred to let it be reminded that they were ones who had taken care of her and not the other way around.

It was a functionable relationship.

Had its ups and downs, but that was all Cerise really had.

She could have interacted with someone different from her, but never felt the need to. They were smaller and fleshier than her.

And who knew what would happen if they discovered her? Far more many would come and Cerise might have been young but she knew what it was to fear the unknown.

Lukas was brought inside of the cave, it was dark—but that never really had been an issue for him before. So it struck him when it became clear that it was truly pitch black.

Even his Vampire vision did not aid him at all.

Something flashed in the corner of his eye, if only a message to inform him of what was happening.

[Absolute Darkness]

A spell that cast on a certain environment will not allow anyone else but the user to see anything unless given permission.

"Spell." Lukas muttered. "It\'s a spell—it\'s magic. Actual magic and not fake magic."

There was a nudge, which Lukas guessed was from the Sky Changing Wyvern and it pushed him forward. Lukas tripped over something, and though he didn\'t stagger back and went rolling into the ground, he was positive that it hadn\'t been a rock.

Lukas picked something up and gave it a squeeze.

Luckily for him, even though he was blind, there was something that allowed him to know what he was dealing with.

"A book. Huh. Wyverns read? Or did they just steal it randomly from merchants who come passing through." Lukas didn\'t quite understand why there were people who still loved old fashioned books printed from paper when VR existed and you could read online, but then he brought it to his nose and sniffed it. "Well, it\'s not that bad. Hmmm… I could get a little used to it."

"It smells heavenly!" a woman\'s voice protested angrily.

"Oh." Lukas blinked. He had expected a male speaker, and assumed that there\'d be some kind of Wyvern Lord or something of the like with increased intelligence but didn\'t expect it to be a woman.

\'Most of the people I still encounter are mostly women. This is like a real world, but from Emerys all the way to the Carmilla sisters and Miss Iolathane, all of them are female. Is this like something like accident or are there more females in the population—but even if there were, they shouldn\'t be all getting close to me. Unless men really just don\'t want to hang around me.\'

"Is that all you\'re going to say?" the voice spoke again, slightly vexed.

"I don\'t speak to unless I\'m spoken to." Lukas shrugged. "Besides, if someone\'s hiding their face from me, I don\'t think they warrant much of a response."

"Hah!"

Lukas tried not to grin. It was crazy, and maybe it was just his confidence in how he operated—but most women did like him?

\'Well, Iolathane doesn\'t seem to like me, can\'t say the same for the Carmilla sisters and I\'m pretty sure that Emerys wanted to just recruit me… but overall, I get along with women in general. And if they were looking to kill me, then they would have done it the instant I stepped in. Big leagues, spells and magic. Get yourself together, Lukas.\'

"Tell me… why did you not attack the wyverns?" she asked. "You\'ll answer me right?"

"Well, the truth of the matter is that I was looking for you."

"Do you know me? How do you know me?" her voice became tense.

"Well, not you in particular, but someone who could help me save the people stuck in the Dark Forest. The people from Nyx know that there\'s wyverns in Ilstad Mountain, but it\'s our first time encountering a Sky Changing Wyvern. It didn\'t seem like a natural thing—so I came to the conclusion that someone was behind it, and I presume it must be you, Miss Darkness."

"I have a name."

Something heavy smacked against the ground and it was a mini-earthquake of its own.

The answers were all coming together.
